Press release

From February 22nd  to March 23rd of 2023, Kimreeaa Gallery, a gallery that strives to showcase ‘art that changes a life’, will host artist Koo Ja Hyun’s solo exhibition. This exhibition will display Koo Ja Hyun’s continuous process of research and experimentation through her body of two-dimensional works that highlights consistency through the use of materials and physical properties, shining light on the materiality behind Koo Ja Hyun’s detailed work. In ‘Cheongdamdong Kimreeaa Gallery’, Koo Ja Hyun’s tableaux pieces that present flatness and materiality through screen prints, lithographs, and woodblock prints underscoring the physical properties of ink and paper will be exhibited on the 1rst and 2nd floor of the gallery.

Koo Ja Hyun’s body of two-dimensional work is authentic to its core. Without aggressively being in the viewer’s face, the pieces soundly communicate with the audience. In order to produce such pieces of work, Koo aims to create perfect two-dimensional pieces through the best quality materials and methods. For the desired outcome, Koo Ja Hyun highlights the slightest details in her work. Koo Ja Hyun’s print works including lithographs, screen prints, and woodcuts, promotes a new perspective on printmaking. For over 40 years, Koo Ja Hyun has worked to execute prints created through perfect technique, not mass reproduction. The artist has utilized not only the best source of materials, but also her precision and attentiveness to create a beautiful body of artworks. These pieces adjust perfectly to any space, allowing viewers to enjoy any environment they are in.

Born in 1955, Koo Ja Hyun has an extensive background from graduating Hongik University’s College of Fine Arts to holding exhibitions in Seoul, Daegu, Busan, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, and Nuremberg. She is one of the most celebrated artists in the field of contemporary art in Korea. Through the exhibition held at both Kimreeaa Gallery and Shinhan PMW Apgujeong Center, we hope that viewers will be able to shift their perspective on their daily lives and environment through Koo Ja Hyun’s special body of work.
