Helene B. Grossmann, born in Dresden, Germany, is an artist who has built a distinctive painting practice through her exploration of the harmony between light and color. She studied painting at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1981 to 1985 and actively pursued her artistic career in both Dresden and Berlin during the East German era. After moving to Munich, West Germany, in 1988, she sought to expand her artistic practice. Since 1994, she has been running a studio with the support of the city of Munich, continuing her artistic practice.
Grossmann’s artistic journey begins with a profound exploration of how light and color interact. Through her technique of layering multiple colors, she creates unique depth and spatiality, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in her work. Her work elevates light from a mere visual element to a sensory experience, presenting a new pictorial possibility where space and color are in harmonious balance.
Recognized by the Malevich Foundation, Grossmann received a painting award from the Erwin von Kreibig Museum Foundation in Munich in 2005. Since the 1980s, she has traveled extensively to Southern France, Rome, Mexico, and Central Asia, exploring the relationship between light and color. She has actively exhibited her work in Germany and Switzerland. Furthermore, she has broadened her artistic boundaries through ceiling frescoes and stained glass works, experimenting with new forms where color and space merge.
Helene B. Grossmann's work transcends traditional painting, offering a unique sensory experience through the fusion of light and color. Her paintings reconstruct space and evoke emotions in the viewer through the depth of color, continuously evolving as an artistic language that communicates with the audience.
